Musing Mondays

Musing Mondays is hosted by Rebecca at Just One More Page

When reading do you read every word? Do you ever skip chapters or skim over parts?

I think this really depends on what I am reading. The books I have been reading lately I really love and I have been reading every single word. I wish I could say I had been so diligent in college but the amount of reading made that impossible. I had to skim then or there was no way I could get it all done. But I always at least skim, I never just skip things. Who knows, that could have been my favorite thing ever written and I would have missed it if I was in the habit of skipping things.

There have been times when I knew I read a book too fast and missed things too, and I usually try and go back and reread those books. This happened a lot with the later Harry Potter books. I wanted to zip through them really fast so I could have it read before all talk about it ruined plot points for me. The after I knew everything that happened I would go back and read it again to catch all the little stuff.

What is your reading style? Let everyone know over at Just One More Page

When I really love a book I sometimes read it too quickly as well, but that is okay because sometimes rereading them is the best part!

I am guilty of reading too fast when a book is really, really good too!

I agree, it depends on the book. I read Dostoevsky word-for-word, Stephanie Meyers, not so much. If the book is plot driven, I tend to fly through (a book-a-day for the Twilight saga) but if it has layers of meaning, I slow down.

I also found myself skipping, and scanning in some of the Harry Potter Books--The woman needs a better editor! Loved the series and the story, but I found myself yawning through much of it. A mind can only absorb when it is alert.

You have a great site

Great answer, I thought the same thing. Pleasure reading-every word. Manuals or back in school-SKIM!

The only time I skip is when I know I am not missing anything important to the plot and I really want to get to the next part. Usually only happens with fast paced suspense thrillers.

Thanks for entering my giveaway, btw, and for the book rec. :)

I read the last couple of Harrys too fast too and I had to go back and re-digest everything.

I unintentionally skip words too, when a book is exciting.
